How much should a small shop spend on Facebook ads each month?

Work out your Facebook ads budget from your sales target instead of guessing — with a worked example for online shops just getting started.

The question we hear most from shop owners is “how much is enough?”. The right answer isn’t a fixed number — it’s a calculation that works backwards from your sales goal.

1. Start with the number of orders you want

Say you want 60 orders a month, roughly two a day. That’s the number your budget is built on — not “200,000 VND a day just to be safe”.

2. Estimate your cost per order

In many consumer categories, the cost per order through messages usually runs from 40,000 to 120,000 VND at the start. With no data yet, take the middle — say 80,000 VND.

3. Multiply to get the budget

60 orders × 80,000 VND = 4.8 million VND a month. That’s a sensible starting budget. After two weeks, real data will show your actual cost per order so you can adjust.

4. Check profit before spending more

Your cost per order has to be lower than your gross profit per order. If each order earns 100,000 VND but costs 120,000 VND in ads, a bigger budget just loses money faster — fix the product, price or ad creative first.

5. Don’t spread the budget too thin

A campaign needs enough data to optimise. Under about 5 million VND, focus on one or two ad sets rather than ten tiny ones.
